Our musical season started in April with the second Harp Academy organised by Camac, the French harp builder. Five young professional musicians from Russia, Poland, Italy, Belgium and France taught by Isabelle Moretti. Seven harps here in the house (approx. one ton). www.harpblog.info/en/2016/06/academie-camac-2016-2/
The chamber music festival season is almost upon us. My favourite locals are:
- Les Concerts de l'Amitié held in the idyllic setting of the Hermitage du Meyran at St Victor la Coste in the middle of the vineyards of the Cote du Rhône. 31st of May to the 10th of June. www.lesconcertsdelamitie.fr. This has now taken place and was a delight: world class as usuazl
- The 9th edition of Musique à la Ferme held in the barn of the Honnoré family at Lançon de Provence. 18th to 26th of July. www.musiquealaferme.com.
- The Empiri from the 27th of July to the 6th of August in the renaissance courtyard of the chateau of Salon de Provence. This year there will be 24 concerts at the chateau and two other destinations nearby. www.festival-salon.fr.
Although all of these are given by world class musicians, audiences are between only 150 and 300. This gives them a charm and intimacy quite different from the larger events in Aix or La Roque d'Antheron; of course these are marvellous too but a great deal better known. I prefer the three smaller ones and will be going to all of them: at least two spare places in my car for you.
