Fanfares of lillies at the door, Haydn inside, and Michael smiling in his chefs apron. Rabassière means "where truffles
are found" and his Epicurian dinners are a must; vintage wine and a sculpted dancer grace his terrace table. Cookery classes with olive oil from his trees,
jogging companionship, airport pick up are all part of his unflagging hospitality, aided by Thevi, his serene Singaporean assistant. Big bedrooms and drawing
room are comfortable in English country house style: generous beds, erudite bookshelves and a tuned piano, Provençal antiques. Come savour this charmingly
generous and individual house.
FODOR'S / RIVAGE
(available in English, French, German and Dutch editions) "With its magnificent view over fields and the Etang
de Berre, its well kept garden (roses, olive grove, croquet lawn) and its elegant rooms decorated with an Anglo Saxon eye to comfort, this Mas has all the qualities
needed for pleasant relaxation. It has however much more than that, thanks to the personality of Michael Frost, with his enthusiasm, his availability, and his sense
of humour. Helped by Thevi with her marvellous cooking, he organises unforgettable holidays full of friendship and joy of living".
"Where else would you find such "little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love"? Where else but
in Provence? That and 3000 hours of sun a year.
La Rabassière is a comfortable family home with individually air conditioned rooms. For most of the year life is outdoors, but there is a drawing room (with grand piano),
TV room, dining room, library and large sunny kitchen producing delicious Provençal and Indian meals.
The three acres of south facing terraced gardens are mostly given over to olive trees, but there is a tennis court, 12 x 6m pool, croquet lawn and boules. Arles, Avignon,
St Remy, Aix and Marseille are all between 30 and 45 minutes away, as are the Camargue, the Mediterranean and the Luberon. The local golf course is excellent
and is about 5km from the house.
Theme holidays can be arranged given a little notice: cooking (our favourite subject, using olive oil from the garden), Provençal decoration, local artists,
trekking etc.. Transport can be arranged from Marseille airport (20 minutes) or the local station, and also by the day to avoid having to drive.
